Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy will present A Night of Philosophy and Ideas 2018, a sunset-to-sunrise event bringing philosophers, cultural critics, artists, and authors from around the world into conversation with the Brooklyn and greater New York community through a series of talks and performances from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on January 27-28, 2018.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the 1968 student-led protests in the United States, Paris, Mexico City, Prague, and cities around the world, A Night of Philosophy and Ideas will draw together a diverse constituency to explore how collective action can inform public affairs and daily life, and motivate national and international change. The second annual Night of Philosophy and Ideas held in the historic Central Library at Grand Army Plaza creates space in the heart of Brooklyn for fundamental conversations on issues vital to the borough, the city, and the globe.

Additional philosophers will include Gayatri Spivak, Bruno Bosteels, Abdennour Bidar, Pierre Zaoui, and Leszek Kolakowski.
Night of Philosophy and Ideas will also feature a flash philosophy workshop led by Peter Catapano and Simon Critchley of The Stone; an all-night screening of the acclaimed Holocaust documentary Shoah; performance artist Sherrill Roland's Jumpsuit Project; acrobatic feats by French circus collective Compagnie XY; music from the Women's March Resistance Revival Chorus; a screening of philosopher Gilles Deleuze's Abécédaire; and a musical program presented by National Sawdust.
