Bad Theater Fest, created as a supportive, fun and open environment for artists to present anything weird, different or unique has announced their lineup of dramatic short plays, comedy show, dance, musical theater and storytelling performances.
As part of their 5th year celebration Bad Theater Fest moves to a Brooklyn venue: St. Paul's Upstairs Theater, 334 S. 5th St. (between Rodney and Keap St.), Brooklyn, NY, 11211. The festival takes place Tuesday through Saturday, November 1 - 5, 2016 with multiple performances each evening. Tickets are $15 and are available at badtheaterfest.com.
There are performances each evening (at 7pm and 9pm). Each performance includes several short plays.
Highlights include:
- Cat Wedding Proposal, Tuesday, Nov 1 @ 7pm - the adorable Charlie Thunderpaws has an important question for his lady. Nothing in the world can stop or distract him except for yarn, rolling balls, and a giant pole with feathers.
- Jeff Seal: Are You Gonna Finish Those Beans? Wednesday, Nov 2 @ 7pm - fresh from his run at Edinburgh, comedian and professionally-trained clown, Jeff Seal waxes poetic about Tourette's Syndrome, delivering weed and the mystical female org*sm.
- MelanCon, Thursday, Nov 3 @ 7pm - It's the Comic-Con for melancholy and depression! Here's a panel dedicated to Wallowing in Self Despair.
- Glengarry Glen Escalator, Friday, Nov 4 @ 7pm - A spoof of that David Mamet play. This time it's about ESCALATOR SALESMAN!!!!
"All the plays are short," notes co-producer BJ Thorne. "So if you see something you don't like, it'll be over soon. But these shows are taking a risk doing something crazy or weird. Is usually pays off."
Bad Theater Fest recently won a grant from The Indie Theater Fund for its commitment to staging works by and collaborating with artists of color. The festival has hosted over 300 shows with the participation of over 700 playwrights, directors and actors. The festival's commitment to a low-risk, fun environment for the performers fosters an eclectic mix of theatrical style and scope. Their companion event - BAD FILM FEST takes place in Williamsburg, BK every April.
