In the year 2013 this traditional orchestra celebrates its 125th anniversary. Their main characteristics are the unique sonority of their strings, metals and woods sections, as well as a storied tradition of direct collaborations with composers such as Mahler, Stravinsky and Berio. Founded in 1888, this orchestra of 120 musicians currently has more than one thousand recordings and is in the hands of the acclaimed Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons. To São Paulo they come accompanied by Denis Matsuev, one of the most praised Russian pianists of our days.
