WHAT Presents Community Reading of A CHRISTMAS CAROL Today
Celebrate the holiday through the joy of sharing a classic story, read aloud by friends and neighbors. Inspired by the Moby-Dick Big Read at Plymouth University, UK, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater (WHAT) invites members of the community to read Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL today, December 19 at 2pm on the theater's Julie Harris Stage.
"We wanted the opportunity to explore the story without the distraction of spectacle," WHAT's Managing Director and Artistic Associate Christopher Ostrom explained. "We're getting back to the simplicity of the words this holiday season and savoring the company of our friends." For the reading, WHAT will provide the adaptation Dickens himself used when offering public readings.
The event is free and appropriate for all ages. Patrons are invited to sign up to read, or come and listen. Audience members are encouraged to reserve their seats in advance, either at the box office or through the theater's website, what.org. Readers may sign up by contacting the WHAT box office by 1:30pm on December 19.
The community reading will be recorded for rebroadcast on WOMR/WFMR Community Radio.
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater is the award-winning theater company that inspired "a new vigor for theater on the Cape" (New York Times). In honor of the theater's namesake, Julie Harris, WHAT continues to be a sounding board for new and bold ideas, presenting "continually adventurous theater" (Boston Globe), and year-round programming.
