Tir Na Productions to Present RETURN OF THE WINEMAKER: AN IRISH CHRISTMAS COMEDY, 12/2-20

By:

The townspeople are panicking. The village winemaker has announced that He's leaving town, and He also happens to be the son of God. Contrary to popular belief, Jesus Christ was not born in Bethlehem, but rather the small Irish village of Ballygoura in County Galway.

RETURN OF THE WINEMAKER: AN IRISH CHRISTMAS COMEDY, produced by Tir Na Productions of Boston, spotlights one village's quest to hold on to their most valuable son and will play at Davis Square Theatre in Somerville from December 2 through December 20, 2015.

This dark musical comedy is an uproarious, refreshing departure from traditional holiday theatre: a show that invites you to celebrate Christmas the way only the Irish can.

"We are hugely excited about Return of the Winemaker. The script and music are just so much fun to work with and we have assembled a great cast including one of Boston's finest actresses Nancy E. Carroll, who is joined by Stephen Russell and Derry Woodhouse," says artistic director Colin Hammell, who rounds out the cast. "We set ourselves the challenge of creating something different, something that steps away from the usual Christmas fare, and under the expert direction of Carmel O'Reilly, and with a healthy pinch of outrageous and cutting humor, we hope we have found something that will give the audience a really enjoyable and unique Christmas night out."

Can Ballygoura convince Him to stay for the sake of Yuletide cheer? Even God is a big softy around Christmas time...right? From the playwright who brought you the award winning one-man show Jimmy Titanic, RETURN OF THE WINEMAKER is Bernard McMullan's second collaboration with Tir Na. The show's artistic director Colin Hamell took an IRNE Award in 2014 for best solo performance for his portrayal of Jimmy, and again takes the lead in this rollicking holiday comedy.
