The Theater At Boston Court Presents GOD SAVES GERTRUDE, Runs Through 11/8

By:

GOD SAVE GERTRUDE- World Premiere by Deborah Stein music by David Hanbury lyrics by Deborah Stein and David Hanbury directed by Michael Michetti, runs through November 8, 2009

A punk rock riff on Hamlet. Set in an abandoned theater, Queen Gertrude takes to the stage and sings about her many loves and many mistakes while angry crowds gather outside and her country simmers in a volatile state of transition. As bombs rain down and her coked-up son sells out to MTV, Gertrude hopes to incite one last riot before she goes.

Talkback with members of the cast of "God Save Gertrude, Sunday, October 18 after the 2pm performance, Thursday, October 29 after the 8pm performance.

Illuminations - A dialogue using the theatrical performance as a catalyst for discussion:

Thursday, October 22 after the 8pm performance. Punked - The origin of Punk music in the 1970s spawned a political, anti-establishment subculture still thriving today. It is also huge inspiration for "God Save Gertrude." How did this world of music and its attendant clothing, attitude and lifestyle come about and how has it grown and changed?

Sunday, November 1 after the 2pm performance. Newfangled Classics - Shakespeare's works and other timeless classics are often considered the origins of modern playwriting. Yet time and again artists take these tales and reshape them to fit society's ever changing standards and concern. How have these adaptations illuminated the works in new and unexpected ways?

Late Nite Salon - Fridays, October 23, 30, and November 6 after the 8pm performance. Want somewhere to go after you see the show? Stay and talk about the play over a complimentary glass of wine with some of the show's creative people.
