The Cotuit Center for the Arts will hold open auditions for Porgy & Bess: Music & Stories, music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward. In recognition of the 75th anniversary of Porgy & Bess, Cotuit Center for the Arts will present five (5) staged concerts featuring selected arias and ensemble pieces from the famous folk opera.

Auditions will be held on:

Friday, January 15 from 7pm to 9pm, and;
Saturday, January 16 from 2pm to 4pm.

Auditions will be held at the Arts Center located at 4404 Falmouth Road, Rte. 28 in Cotuit.

Each auditionee is to bring a prepared song along with an additional copy for the accompanist. We are looking for a diverse cast to fill the roles of Bess, Sportin' Life and the Chorus. Audition forms may be printed out from our website and brought to the audition.

Please submit all questions to Patrick Pope at patrick@cotuitcenterforthearts.org or Jeffrey Billard at jeffreybillard@comcast.net. Rehearsals will begin in February.

Production dates are March 5th, 6th & 7th, 2010.

The concerts will include a two piano arrangement with Robert Wyatt and Jared McMurray which will punctuate the individual performances. Throughout the evening, Dr. Wyatt will also present information focusing on the historical and cultural significance of the opera. Some of the featured arias include: I Got Plenty, Summertime, It Ain't Necessarily So, and Bess You Is My Woman.

CCftA Open Auditions

But I've never auditioned before! Not to worry-we are happy to answer any questions you may have and can provide you with any information you need before the auditions.

Can I get involved "behind the scenes"? Even if you're not interested in being in the spotlight, you can be part of the action. You can help with publicity, posters, scenery, sets, costumes, makeup, props, lights, ushering- the list is endless. For information e-mail Sarah at sarah@cotuitcenterforthearts.org.

What's in it for me? Fame, fortune, and fun . . . well, okay, fun and maybe a little local notoriety! Cotuit Center for the Arts is a non-profit organization, heavily reliant on volunteers. Actors and crew members usually receive complimentary tickets to preview nights, an opening night celebration after the performance, and often there's a cast party. Costumes are provided by CCftA for the duration of the show.
