Being a sophomore is so much more fun than being a freshman! Not only do you know where everything is, people actually look up to you and think that you have answers to all their questions. For example: ‘do you know where this class is? I’m lost’. Only then do you realize that they’re majoring in something science-y like chemistry or physics, and you’ve never set foot in the science complex in your entire college experience, so you don’t actually know where anything is.

It is good to be back, though! To see all my friends that have been away for the past few months, to settle back into a routine, to start a new semester of classes. I’m taking five classes this semester, although if you would have asked me two weeks ago I would’ve told you I was taking four. Literally a week and a half ago I decided to add on “The Business Of Show Business”, a class about running a theater and all the behind the scenes that goes into creating a show! I mentioned it in my last article, and I just recently got the syllabus and it looks AMAZING. There’s an entire section focused on theater marketing, which is the area I’m most interested in. I spent my summer creating social media content for one of my favorite musicals, and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about theater and all the work that goes into a Broadway show. I don’t have the class for the first week, but I’m really excited to finally take my first theater class!

(I know — I’m a horrible theater kid. One year into college and I haven’t even taken a theater class yet. I have done a musical and a cabaret; you can read about them in my previous articles.)

So whether you’re finishing up a major, just starting your first semester, or you decide on a whim to take a class merely because it looks interesting, go for it! Take the classes that interest you, ones that you’ll find yourself looking forward to attending.

And if you see freshmen looking around cluelessly, a great place to direct them to is the theater.
