The Cape Cod premiere of the smash hit off-Broadway comedy THE DIVINE SISTER opens tonight, July 12 at the Provincetown Theater, and runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through September 8th. All performances will be at 8:00PM.

Written by Charles Busch, the comic genius behind such classics as PSYCHO BEACH PARTY; THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST'S WIFE; and VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM, THE DIVINE SISTER is an inspired homage to every Hollywood film ever made about nuns. Set in Pittsburgh, circa 1966, this twisted tale tells the story of an indomitable Mother Superior valiantly trying to save her beloved (and cash-strapped) St. Veronica’s School and convent, while coping with a young postulant experiencing “heavenly visions”, fending off a former suitor intent on luring her away from her vows, and navigating the maneuvers of mysterious nun visiting from Berlin.

Obie Award winner David Drake, who was a member of the original New York cast of THE DIVINE SISTER, is set to direct the production, which features a cast headed by the Boston-based Gold Dust Orphans theater company founder Ryan Landry. Other cast members are Grace Carney, Olive Another, Sallie Tighe, Aaron Tone, and David Drake.

Sets and costumes will be designed by Scott Martino, with lighting design by Jim Byrne, and wig design by Bobby Miller.

THE DIVINE SISTER opened Off-Broadway at the SoHo Playhouse on September 22, 2010 and closed May 1, 2011 after running for nine previews and 253 regular performances. It was directed by Carl Andress and featured playwright Charles Busch along with Alison Fraser, Julie Halston, Amy Rutberg, Jennifer Van Dyck, and Jonathan Walker. The show was nominated for two 2011 Drama Desk Awards: Outstanding Actor in a Play (Charles Busch) and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play (Julie Halston). Charles Busch also received a nomination from the Drama League Awards for Distinguished Performance.

Ticket for THE DIVINE SISTER are $30.00, and are available by calling the box office at 508-487-7487, or online at www.provincetowntheater.org.
