Lo! 'tis a gala night Within the lonesome latter years! An angel throng, bewinged, bedight In veils, and drowned in tears, Sit in a theatre, to see A play of hopes and fears, While the orchestra breathes fitfully The music of the spheres. -Edgar Allan Poe, The Conqueror Worm

So opens Poe; a fever dream, a collection of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories and poems newly adapted for the stage by 11:11 Theatre Company. The production can be thought of as a festival of shorts, forged by three distinct playwrights and brought to life by five uniquely gifted directors, all based directly on the creations of a brilliant young author born in 19th-century Boston whose works have inspired the nation for a century and a half.

Poe; a fever dream will premiere on October 1, 2010 at The Factory Theatre on Tremont Street in Boston, MA. The show will run for three weekends, starring a cast of eleven actors and featuring music created by a small selection of talented artists. Tickets are $17 general admission ($15 for students and seniors) and can be purchased at the door or online at www.1111theatre.com/poe.html.

Our nine featured stories are:

The Cask of Amontillado
The Fall of the House of Usher
The Tell-Tale Heart
The Pit and the Pendulum
Berenice
Hop-Frog
The Masque of the Red Death
Never Bet the Devil Your Head
The Sphinx
11:11 Theatre Company's mission is to produce original works by and for the Boston community. Our motto, intimate, original, eye-opening plays, has accurately reflected the nature of our work over the past decade as we've delighted audiences with memorable stories that boast real artistic merit and fresh, innovative performances. With Poe; a fever dream we hope to thrill and entertain audiences with new adaptations of nationwide favorites such as The Cask of Amontillado and The Fall of the House of Usher as well as lesser-known pieces such as Hop Frog and Never Bet the Devil Your Head. For one of the cheapest ticket prices in town, audiences can discover the works of Edgar Allan Poe all over again or for the first time on the stage of The Factory Theatre, just in time for Halloween.

Poe; a fever dream is the first play of our 2010-2011 season entitled The Sprawling Canvas: A Season-Long Look at Authors, Artists, and Visionary Thieves. Descriptions of all four shows can be found on our Season page, www.1111theatre.com/season.html.
