By: A.A. Cristi
Bill Hanney's award winning North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) and Northshore 104.9 recently teamed up with and The Musary for a unique musical instrument donation drive throughout the run of Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN at North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA. The donation drive resulted in 167 musical instruments and accessories being donated with a total value of $18,530.
"I can't thank everyone enough for this wonderful opportunity and all of the help," said Tom Jones of The Musary. "The promotion of The Musary's mission itself was invaluable, not to mention the donated items. This is by far our most successful drive ever! Some of the instruments collected are already out on loan to eager borrowers"
Throughout the two-week run of THE MUSIC MAN in June, NSMT collected donations of old and unwanted musical instruments to be donated to The Musary, who refurbishes the instruments and adds them to their a one of a kind lending library that provides instruments to anyone in need ... no strings attached!
The Musary, located in Hamilton, MA, is a 501(c)3 organization, all donations are subject to a maximum tax deduction. More information about The Musary can be found on their website: www.themusary.org.
Since opening in 1955, NSMT has become one of the most attended theatres in New England, with approximately 250,000 patrons annually. With a national and regional reputation for artistic achievement, NSMT has received numerous industry awards including Elliot Norton Awards, IRNE Awards, the Rosetta Le Noire Award from Actors' Equity, and the Moss Hart Award. NSMT produced the World Premiere of 'Memphis' in 2003, the show went on to win four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Under the new ownership of Bill Hanney since 2010, NSMT continues to annually produce a musical subscription series and an annual production of 'A Christmas Carol' along with celebrity concerts, children's programming and year-round education classes.
