Local Dancers Shine in FSPA Summer Dance Concert

By: Sep. 02, 2010

Several local dancers displayed their talents at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts' Summer Dance Concert on Wednesday, August 25th at the Medway VFW. This performance was the culmination of a six-week intensive Summer Ballet Repertory program held at FSPA during July and August.

The dance concert included Pointe ballet students, as well as those in intermediate and beginning levels. During the summer intensive, the students studied ballet technique and modern dance, rehearsing three times per week for several hours each day.

Students performed to excerpts from Coppelia, Act III; A Brief Case, choreographed by Donna Bonasera; and Fancy Free, choreographed by Cheryl Madeux-Abbott, Ballet Mistress at FSPA. Madeux-Abbott danced previously with the American Ballet Theatre, and taught the Young Dancers Program at ABT this past summer.

Madeux Abbott said the pieces were chosen to match the students' ability levels, and variety of disciplines was paramount in planning the program. "We try to make the performance eclectic in style, so the dancers have an opportunity to perform in classical ballet, modern dance and contemporary ballet," explained Madeux-Abbott."

Local dances include Ariana Liceaga of Attleboro; Lily Barney, Kendra Dombroski, Jocelyn Jones, Shaina McGillis, Hannah Rezendes, Madison Rezendes, Olivia Rondeau, and Susan Siraco (Pointe) of Franklin; Julia Bilotta (Pointe) and Madeleine Williams of Medway; Laura Mandell of Medfield; Mikaela Guidice of Norfolk; and Callie Liljeberg (Pointe), Emily Lotherington, McKenna May (Pointe), and Caroline Spencer (Pointe) of Wrentham.
