Liars & Believers, Boston's Devised Theater Ensemble, Premieres A STORY BEYOND

A Story Beyond- a musical fable, premieres in the Plaza Black Box theater at the Boston Center for the Arts December 6th through the 22nd.

Inspired by folklore from around the world, Liars & Believers has created a new fable for our time. In it, a young heroine, Maya, struggles to save her village from the looming dark cloud and discovers that the stories we tell create the reality we live. A Story Beyond features music, masks, and puppetry, with an original score by Nathan Leigh and dynamic puppetry by Faye Dupras. "It's an extremely exciting and tasty project filled with innovative artists," says Dupras.

This visionary local company has been developing their latest experimental piece for two years. The unique process of ensemble development uses a vigorous iterative approach, extending beyond the company into the audience. Through moderated feedback sessions, the company incorporates outside contributions into the final project, making the audience integral to the creation. The result combines a fresh perspective with ancient storytelling forms that are suitable for all ages.

A contemporary take on a classic story format, A Story Beyond offers hopeful insight into the current divisive state of the world through the power of myth and art. "As artists in this challenging time, we must inspire our community toward positive action," says Artistic Director Jason Slavick.

Liars & Believers (the LAB) is an ensemble company that creates original live shows with music, movement, mask, puppet, video, clown, live bands, aerialists ... pretty much anything we can get our hands on. Collaborating with audiences and artists of all kinds, we create theatrical works that invite you to open your heart, challenge your mind, and feast your senses.
