ImprovBoston Showcases Top Talent for Premiere IMPROV INVITATIONAL, Now thru 8/1
The Improv Invitational unites ImprovBoston's most talented improvisers for a month of hilarious, boundary-pushing comedy shows. On Fridays from today, July 11 to August 1, this showcase of ImprovBoston's resident casts pushes veteran comedians outside their comfort zones, sparks cross-cast alliances and celebrates a single shared goal: bring the laughs.
New England's premiere comedy theater, ImprovBoston houses an impressive 102 seasoned performers across 11 resident casts that together perform five nights a week. For the first time in the theater's thirty-year history, the Invitational brings all its home teams together including Mainstage, the National Touring Company, Family Show, Face Off, and Harold Night ensembles. Each cast has mastered a unique improvisational skill set and the Invitational combines energy and spontaneity for four nights of unforettable comedy. The Invitational comes from the mind of ImprovBoston Artistic Director Mike Descoteaux, who was looking for a way to unite casts and challenge the boundaries of comedy. Descoteaux shares, "the Invitational is a celebration of the collaborative, boundless spirit of improvisation. Audiences will have a rare opportunity to witness the best improvisers in New England performing together for the first--and possibly last--time in a 4-night cross-cast event that's kind of like the MLB All Star game of improv."Boston is recognized around the world for the comedy talent that comes from our city. For 30 years, ImprovBoston has been the region's leading theater andschool dedicated to the art of comedy in all its forms. Consistently voted "Best of Boston" by The Phoenix, The Improper Bostonian, and The Weekly Dig, ImprovBoston performers, teachers and students have included comedians that have gone on to fame as internationally celebrated film stars, Emmy Award winning television stars, acclaimed theatrical producers, and writers for shows including The Daily Show and Real Time with Bill Maher.
