Upon hearing the news of Former Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino's death, Huntington Theatre Company Managing Director Michael Maso issued the following statement:

"The Huntington Theatre Company's Board of Trustees, Council of Overseers, and staff are saddened to learn today that longtime Boston Mayor and great friend of the Huntington Thomas M. Menino has died. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the people of Boston he served so well.

"Tom Menino believed in the transformative power that arts have on young people, and he was passionately dedicated to improving Boston's cultural infrastructure. His personal commitment helped to create the Huntington's partnership with the Boston Center for the Arts, developer Ron Druker, and the City that transformed an empty parking lot into a state-of-the-art theatrical facility and cultural hub, the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.

"I am so grateful that the former Mayor was with us just last month to mark the Calderwood Pavilion's 10th anniversary, which, along with our city's many other revitalized arts spaces, will stand in tribute to his memory."

The Huntington will dim the marquee lights at the Calderwood Pavilion in memory of Mr. Menino tonight at 7:15pm prior to the performances of Ether Dome (Huntington), Bad Jews (SpeakEasy Stage Company), The Displaced Hindu Gods Trilogy (Company One Theatre), Much Ado About Nothing (Boston Theater Company), and Turtles (Boston Public Works Theatre).
