A beauty queen, a right-wing politician and a liberal activist are locked in a hotel room on the eve of the Miss America pageant - what could possibly go wrong?

Inspired by Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, Lauren Gunderson's The Taming is a hilarious political farce in which Miss America hopeful Katherine has political ambitions as big as her hair! All she needs to transform the government is the help of one conservative senior staffer on the cusp of a career breakthrough, one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause, and a bit of constitutional know-how from our Founding Fathers. In the hands of these three powerful and powerfully funny ladies, the Constitution is in for a major makeover!

Juliet Bowler (Elliot Norton and IRNE award winner) directs three of Boston's funniest actors: Sarah J. Mann, Katie Grindeland, and Lauren Elias (IRNE award nominee), in this satirical skewering of American politics that will leave folks from both sides of the aisle rolling in it!

Lauren Gunderson, a playwright, author, and screenwriter was named the most produced playwright in America for the 2017-2018 season. She was the winner of the Lanford Wilson Award, the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award and the Otis Guernsey New Voices Award. Her works, including The Revolutionists, Emilie, Silent Sky, I and You, and Exit, Pursued by a Bear have been commissioned and produced at companies including The Kennedy Center, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The O'Neill, and many more. She co-authored Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley with Margot Melcon, which was one of the most produced plays in America in 2017. In a 2016 press release about The Taming, Gunderson said she wrote the play "to unpack the deep frustration of a divided and obstructionist patriarchy... to laugh with the painful truth about extremism on both sides, to toy with our country's history and wrestle with its foundational imperfections, and to make manifest a dream of reason and understanding prevailing in America."
