The Norton Singers wraps up its 74th season with "The Scarlet Pimpernel," a swashbuckling action/adventure musical to be performed at Wheaton College's Weber Theater in Norton, MA on June 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9 and 10.

Set in Paris and England in 1794 at the bloody peak of the French Revolution, "The Scarlet Pimpernel" is an adventure story based on Baroness Orczy's famous 20th century novel. Mixing history with drama and adventure, a brave band of Englishmen form The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel to rescue the intended victims of the infamous guillotine. (Some heads will definitely roll!) They are known only by their calling card: a red, star-shaped wildflower known as the Scarlet Pimpernel. Sir Percy, played by Ethan Butler of Waban, may be the first literary "super hero" with a secret identity--a "dandy fop" to most people, but a brave rescuer to a chosen few. Rounding out the leads are: PattiLou Davis of Woonsocket, RI, who portrays his beautiful actress wife, Marguerite, who is being blackmailed by the villainous Chauvelin (Greg Gillis of Cumberland, RI); and Anthony Rinaldi of Wrentham as Marguerite's brother, Armand. They are supported by an ensemble of 40 singers and dancers.

With book and lyrics by Nan Knighton and music by Frank Wildhorn, the score includes "Madame Guillotine," "You Are My Home," and the rousing "Into the Fire." Director Ted Mitchell; Musical Director, Anthony-Alexander Torelli and Assistant Director/Choreographer, Melissa Franklin form the production team this year. Last year, Norton Singers took home seven EMACT DASH awards for its work on Young Frankenstein, including Best Direction, Best Costuming Design and Best Ensemble for a Musical.

Ticket prices: Advance/Non-refundable: Students/seniors $24; General admission $26 and all tickets at the door $29. Call 508-285-4049 or order online at www.nortonsingers.com.
