Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Eric C. Engel recently announced Gloucester Stage's 34th season of producing professional theatre in Gloucester Massachusetts to begin on June 20 with the award winning musical Spring Awakening directed by Engel.

The 2013 season welcomes back many Gloucester Stage favorites: Founding Artistic Director Israel Horovitz and his internationally acclaimed Gloucester play North Shore Fish which had its world premiere at Gloucester Stage in 1986; Gloucester resident and Academy award nominee Lindsay Crouse; the team from last season's hit Master Harold...and the Boys director Benny Sato Ambush and actor Johhny Lee Davenport; star of Gloucester Stage hits Doubt and An Ideal Husband, Lewis D. Wheeler makes his Gloucester Stage directing debut and many familiar faces will be on stage including Robert Pemberton, Amanda Collins, Jimi Stanton and Rockport's Nancy E. Carroll. Gloucester Stage's 2013 season kicks off with the award winning landmark Broadway musical Spring Awakening directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Eric C. Engel. Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical on Broadway in 2007, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's energetic reimagining of Frank Wedekind's 1891 German drama by the same name, is not your grandparents' musical theater. With its electrifying and hauntingly beautiful score, Spring Awakening traces the sexual awakening of several youths in an atmosphere of repression. Their journey from adolescence to adulthood is explored with poignancy and passion. The performance schedule for Spring Awakening is Thursday, June 20 through Saturday, June 22 at 8 pm; Wednesday, June 26 through Saturday, June 29 at 8 pm; Wednesday, July 3 at 7pm; Friday. July 5, and Saturday, July 6 at 8 pm: Wednesday, July 10 through Saturday, July 13 at 8 pm; Saturday matinees at 3 pm on June 22, June 29, July 6 & July 13and Sunday performances at 4 pm on June 23, June 30, July 7 & July 14. There is no performance on Thursday, July 4.

July 18 - August 4 North Shore Fish by Israel Horovitz

Tenacity, colorful irreverence and, ultimately, the fierce loyalty of a group of Gloucester women working on the line of a fish processing plant in Gloucester, MA brand this internationally-renowned comedic drama. The ever-present challenges faced by Cape Ann's fishing industry make Horovitz's play as relevant as when it christened the current home of the Gloucester Stage Company in its world premiere in 1986. Gloucester Stage Founding Artistic Director playwright Israel Horovitz reunites with director Robert Walsh and Rockport resident actress Nancy E. Carroll for North Shore Fish. Walsh directed Horovitz's The Widow's Blind Date in 2007 and Fighting Over Beverley in 2010 and Carroll starred in Horovitz's My Old Lady in 2005. The North Shore Fish performance schedule is Thursday, July 18 through Saturday, July 20 at 8 pm; Wednesday, July 24 through Saturday, July 27 at 8 pm; Wednesday, July 31 through Saturday, August 3 at 8 pm, Saturday matinees on July 20, July 27 and August 3 at 3 pm & Sunday performances on July 21, July 28 and August 4 at 4 pm.

August 8 - August 25 This Is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan

Featuring Jimi Stanton, Alex Pollock and Amanda Collins

directed by Lewis D. Wheeler

This is Our Youth examines the lives of three privileged teenagers in 1980's Manhattan - when and where an abundance of worldly knowledge proves no substitute for familial affection. Directed by Lewis D. Wheeler, star of Gloucester Stage's Doubt and An Ideal Husband, This Is Our Youth features the return of Jimi Stanton and Amanda Collins from 2012's critically acclaimed 9 Circles, and the Gloucester Stage debut of Elliot Norton award winner Alex Pollock. The performance schedule for This Is Our Youth is Thursday, August 8 through Saturday, August 10 at 8 pm; Wednesday, August 14 through Saturday, August 17 at 8 pm Wednesday, August 21 through Saturday, August 24 at 8 pm; Saturday matinees on August 10, August 17 and August 24 at 3 pm and Sunday performances on August 11, August 18 and August 25 at 4 pm.

August 28 - September 1 Dueling Divas Cabaret

Featuring Mary Callanan, Kerry Dowling and Kathy St. George

directed by Eric C. Engel

Mary Callanan, Kerry Dowling and Kathy St. George affectionately battle for center stage in this Cabaret evening featuring classic tunes from the American stage and screen. Gloucester Stage Artistic Director, Eric C. Engel "officiates" this special one week only event bringing all 3 Boston divas together on one stage. The performance schedule for Dueling Divas Cabaret is; Wednesday, August 28 through Saturday, August 31 at 8 pm; a Saturday matinee on August 31 at 3 pm and a Sunday performances are September 1 at 4 pm.

September 5 - September 22 Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry

Featuring Lindsay Crouse, Johnny Lee Davenport and Robert Pemberton

directed by Benny Sato Ambush

Returning guest director, Benny Sato Ambush and Elliot Norton Award winner Johnny Lee Davenport from last season's hit Master Harold ... and the Boys join forces with Academy-award nominee and Gloucester resident Lindsay Crouse and Elliot Norton Award winner Robert Pemberton in this iconic Pulitzer Prize winning drama in which the friendship between a sharp-edged Jewish widow and her black driver triumphs over prejudice in a deeply personal and humorous journey set against the backdrop of the American Civil Rights Movement. Performances of Driving Miss Daisy are Thursday, September 5 through Saturday, September 7; Wednesday, September 11 through Saturday, September 14 and Wednesday, September 18 through Saturday, September 21 at 8 pm; Saturday matinees on September 7, September 14 and September 21 at 3 pm and Sunday performances on September 8, September 15 and September 22 at 4 pm.
