East Boston's Johanna Perri will appear in the leading role of "Velma Kelly" in The Company Theatre's production of Chicago, from tonight, April 5 through 28, at The Company Theatre Centre for the Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell, MA. The production is directed by Zoe Bradford and Jordie Saucerman, choreographed by Sally Forrest, with music direction by Michael Joseph.

Set in the roaring twenties, Chicago paints the town red in vaudeville style and the iconic choreography of Bob Fosse, two merry murderesses and their hotshot lawyer. A sharp edged satire with a dazzling score, this six-time Tony Award winner includes the award for Best Revival, plus the longest running revival in Broadway history. On the big screen, Chicago earned an Oscar Award for Best Picture. On stage, ambitious chorus gal Roxie Hart murders her faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband to take the blame. Convicted and sent to death row, she meets another "merry murderess" in Velma Kelly. The two vie for the spotlight, headlines, and join forces in search of the "American Dream" - fame, fortune and acquittal. Chicago is the hit heard round the world, calling out with "C'mon babe, we're gonna paint the town...and all that jazz!"

Perri has appeared in over 20 theatres across the region, starring in many previous productions, including Company's Arsenic and Old Lace (Elaine), Cabaret (Kit Kat Girl), 42nd Street (Lorraine), A Christmas Carol (Belle), Gloryland and The Momologues. At other regional theatres, credits include appearances in Gypsy (Gypsy Rose Lee), Sweet Charity (Charity), Anything Goes (Reno Sweeney), Guys and Dolls (Miss Adelaide), Singin' in the Rain (Kathy Selden), Oklahoma! (Laurey Williams), Carousel (Carrie Pipperidge), Bye Bye Birdie (Rose Alvarez), Meet Me in St. Louis (Esther), BIG (Susan Lawrence), Beauty and the Beast (Belle), and Cinderella.
