Distinguished Duo Jeff Harnar And Alex Rybeck To Headline Provincetown CabaretFest 2018

Provincetown CabaretFest proudly welcomes the award-winning team of Jeff Harnar and Alex Rybeck, and their acclaimed "The 1959 Broadway Songbook" show to the 2018 lineup. Harnar recently won a coveted MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) Major Male Vocal Artist Award for the popular show. "The 1959 Broadway Songbook" show is a perfect match to the festival's 1950s theme and has been hailed as "superb" by The New York Times, "a hit" by The Chicago Tribune and one of the "critic's top five" by The Times London.

Harnar has previously earned numerous industry awards, including: three Backstage Bistro Awards; two MAC Awards as Best Male Vocalist; and The Noel Coward Foundation Cabaret Award. Known for his velvety baritone voice, Harnar's vast repertoire has earned him recognition in The New York Times as "the most important male cabaret performer since Michael Feinstein." Harnar's cabaret work has headlined major New York City venues, from The Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room and Feinstein's at The Regency, to Birdland, The Iridium, and Carnegie Hall.

As a composer, arranger and pianist, Rybeck has worked with Broadway's best, including George Abbott, Hal Prince, Tommy Tune and Burt Bacharach and recorded with Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway. He is the musical composer-collaborator for scores of songs that are treasured by contemporary vocalists. "What A Funny Boy He Is", "Bless Your Heart (For Loving Me), and "Together This Christmas" are just a few examples from his extensive song catalog. As music director, Rybeck's collaborations with Jeff Harnar have been many over the years, stretching back three decades. Harnar and Rybeck have just recently returned from performances at London's historic venue The Pheasantry.

"The 1959 Broadway Songbook" will be presented on Saturday evening of CabaretFest, beginning at 10 pm in the Cabaret Room of The Crown and Anchor Inn, 247 Commercial Street in Provincetown. Harnar recently directed the show "My Ship: Songs from 1941", which also earned CabaretFest alumnus Dawn Derow a 2018 MAC Award as Female Vocalist. Derow debuted the show at last year's CabaretFest. She will host a memorial luncheon during CabaretFest, to celebrate the lives of vocalist Charlotte Patton and musical director Barry Levitt.

Performers' workshop spots have sold out for the master classes of renowned cabaret performer Marilyn Maye, but tickets are still available for observation spots (Maye's master class tickets must be purchased separately from other CabaretFest events). The auditor/observation spots are considered a bargain for local Cape people, at $50 per class. VIP Passes (the festival's best bargain) are still available for purchase, allowing passholders to attend all performances and private parties, and to monitor workshops.
