Berkshire Theatre Fest Hosts Auditions For THE WIZARD OF OZ

Berkshire Theatre Festival seeks child and adult actors, musicians, backstage crew, technical support, usher staff, and parent volunteers to participate in its upcoming community production of the musical The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum adapted by John Kane for The Royal Shakespeare with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, background music by Herbert Stothart, Dance and Vocal Arrangements by Peter Howard, Orchestration by Larry Wilcox, based upon the Classical Motion Picture owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed in all media by Warner Bros. The production will be directed by E. Gray Simons III and Travis G. Daly.

These roles and positions are open to members of the Berkshire community, third grade through adults. Rehearsals will begin in late July, with performances September 9-11 at The Colonial Theatre located at 111 South Street in Pittsfield, MA. It should be noted that rehearsals will take place in Stockbridge, MA.

Proceeds from the production will benefit BTF PLAYS!, Berkshire Theatre Festival's Year-Round
Education Program. Funding provided by BTF sponsors will cover the theatre's direct production costs.

Auditions will take place on Tuesday, May 24th from 6pm to 10pm, Wednesday, May 25th from 6pm to 10pm and Thursday, May 26th from 6pm to 10pm at The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA located at 111 South Street.

Student auditions will be held during the first three hours of each session and the last hour will be for adults. Adults should be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song and bring the accompanying sheet music that is in the key in which they prefer to sing. Students will learn a song at the audition. Callbacks will take place as needed. Appointments are necessary to audition.

In addition there will be a chorus of adults for the Citizens of Oz and a children's chorus for Munchkins,
Poppies, Monkeys and Winkies.
