ArtWeek Boston Seeks Applications for Spring 2017 Festival

ArtWeek, an award-winning innovative festival featuring more than 150 unique and creative experiences, is seeking applications for its Spring 2017 festival.

Events will be held throughout Eastern Massachusetts from April 28 - May 7, and applications can be found at artweekboston.org.

The early bird deadline to submit an ArtWeek event is February 24; the final deadline is March 10.

ArtWeek is presented by Highland Street Foundation and produced by the Boch Center.

Launched in 2013, ArtWeek seeks to spotlight Massachusetts' creative economy by offering creative experiences that are hands-on, interactive or offer behind-the-scenes access to artists or the creative process. To date, ArtWeek has worked with more than 750 organizations and partners, hosting more than 750 events in over 50 neighborhoods and towns across Eastern Massachusetts. Through community and artistic collaborations, this 10-day festival provides neighborhood-based experiences in dance, folk and traditional arts, fashion, media arts, spoken-word, poetry, writing, contemporary visual arts, music, opera, theater, design, film, and more. ArtWeek also works to make art and cultural experiences affordable and accessible-more than 65% of events are free to the public.

Confirmed Spring ArtWeek events include The Art of the Automobile: Cars of Summer, a behind the scenes look at more than 100 vintage automobiles displayed on Boston's City Hall Plaza; The Art of Meteorology, a behind the scenes look at how WCVB's Storm Team 5 Meteorologists track major storms; Celebrate Public Art!, a celebration of the international World Labyrinth Day and Abstract Sculpture new configuration; DanceTheYard Artist Talk Back, a performance followed by a talk back with the choreographers and dancers; O+ Festival and Artist Talk, an artist talk by a mural artist whose work is in progress; and The Rotating Portrait, a 4-hour event that features a costumed model doing one pose while six artists capture the model using different styles and media.

All events submitted before the February 24 early bird deadline will be featured on the Wang and Shubert Theatre marquees for added visibility. For more information, visit www.artweekboston.org.
