Apollinaire Theatre Company presents EVERYMAN by Carol Ann Duffy

Everyman is successful, popular, and riding high when Death comes calling. Forced to abandon the life he has built, he embarks on a last, frantic search to recruit a friend, anyone, to speak in his defense. But Death is close behind, and time is running out.
One of the great primal, spiritual myths, Everyman asks whether it is only in death that we can understand our lives. A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, this new adaptation by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy was presented at the National Theatre, London, in April 2015.

Everyman stars Armando Rivera, making his local debut. Armando comes to Boston via California where he worked with B Street Theatre. Last summer Armando co-directed Apollinaire Play Lab's Spanish-language adaptation of Hamlet. He is joined by Apollinaire regulars Ann Carpenter (God), Julee Antonellis (Death), and Dale Young -director of this season's Informed Consent- (Knowledge), among others.
The design team reunites many of the artists who also created key elements of the new Chelsea Theatre Works BlackBox Theatre. Lighting designer Chris Bocchiaro designed the new theater's lighting system as well as the work/decorative lighting, scenic painter Megan Kinneen designed the blackbox bar space and painted the bar mural, and scenic artist Marc Poirier designed and built the stand-out blackbox bar with live oak ship frame timbers salvaged from the Charlestown Navy Yard.

Carol Ann Duffy was born in Glasgow and grew up in Stafford. She won the 1993 Whitbread Award for Poetry and the Forward Prize for Best Collection for Mean Time. The World's Wife received the E. M. Forster Award in America, while Rapture won the T. S. Eliot Prize 2005. She is currently Professor of Contemporary Poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her most recent volumes are New and Collected Poems for Children (2009) and The Bees (2011), which won the Costa Poetry Award. She is Poet Laureate.
Apollinaire Theatre Company stages passionate plays at their elegantly restored theater in the Chelsea Theatre Works, as well as bilingual free summer theater in the park. Recently Apollinaire opened two new theaters at the Chelsea Theatre Works, the Riseman Family Theatre that houses their Apollinaire Play Lab program for children and youth, and the New BlackBox Theatre, a rental house for Greater Boston's performing arts community.
Recent Apollinaire productions include Threesome by Yussef El Guindi, MidSummer by David Greig, Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov, Stupid F**king Bird by Aaron Posner, A Beautiful Day in November on the Banks of the Greatest of the Great Lakes by Kate Benson, and Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven by Young Jean Lee.
