A.R.T./MXAT Institute Presents LADYBIRD At Zero Arrow 3/13

By:

The American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre School institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University presents Ladybird by Vasily Sigarev, directed by Jim True-Frost. Performance dates and times are March 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30 pm at the A.R.T.'s Zero Arrow Theatre, Corner of Arrow Street and Mass Ave., Harvard Square.

The night before leaving his home to fight in Chechnya, Dima throws himself a small going away party in the apartment he shares with his drunken father. As he celebrates with a junkie, a small-time criminal, a good friend, and her mysterious cousin, the night takes a dark turn when the junkie tries to pawn Dima's most precious possession. In the wake of this betrayal, the host and his desperate guests are forced to confront what it is they really value and what might be left for them in a community known only as "Dead and Alive."

Sigarev's searing portraits of disaffected youth represent a new movement in Russian drama and a powerful artistic response to life after communism. From the Ural Mountains, Sigarev does not shy away from depicting the grittier aspects of contemporary provincial life, but while his work may lack glamour, it still reaffirms the beauty of the human heart.

Jim True-Frost (Director) has directed The Mesmerist and Ghost in the Machine for Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. As an actor, he was last seen at the A.R.T. as Brutus in Julius Caesar. He is a member of the Steppenwolf ensemble and has performed in numerous productions with them, including Killers (Joseph Jefferson Award), The Grapes of Wrath, Buried Child, The Playboy of the Western World, and I Just Stopped By to See the Man. He has also appeared on the small screen in The Wire and on the big screen in Singles, Affliction and The Hudsucker Proxy as Buzz the Elev
Ticket prices are $10 for the general public; $5 for students, and seniors, free to A.R.T. subscribers. They can be purchased at the Loeb Drama Center or by calling the A.R.T. Box Office at (617) 547-8300 or online at www.amrep.org.
