A.R.T. Holds Memorial Service for Actor Jeremy Geidt Today

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) hosts a memorial service to celebrate the life and accomplishments of its founding member and beloved actor and teacher Jeremy Geidt, who passed away on August 6th of this year. The celebration include participation by friends, colleagues, and family who knew and loved Jeremy, and all are invited to attend.

The memorial will be held at 7:00pm tonight, Monday, November 18th in the theater of the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge, and will be followed by a reception in the lobby of the theater. Doors will open at 6:15pm.

Jeremy Geidt was A.R.T.'s Senior Actor and founding member of the Yale Repertory Theatre (as well as director of the Yale Acting Program where he also taught), and founding member of the A.R.T. He appeared in more then 40 productions at Yale, and over 100 at the A.R.T., including Cabaret, The Seagull (three turns as Sorin), Julius Caesar, Three Sisters, The Onion Cellar, Major Barbara (Undershaft), Heartbreak House (Shotover), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Quince four times, Snug once), Henry IV (Falstaff), Twelfth Night (Toby Belch), The Caretaker (Davies), The Homecoming (Max), Loot (Truscott), Man and Superman (Mendoza/Devil), Waiting for Godot (Vladimir), The Threepenny Opera (Peacham/Petey), Ivanov (Lebedev), Three Sisters (Chebutkin), Buried Child (Dodge), The Cherry Orchard (Gaev), and The King Stag (Pantelone).

Jeremy trained at The Old Vic Theatre School in his native England and subsequently taught there. Prior to coming to the U.S. with the satirical revue The Establishment, he acted at the Old Vic, Young Vic, The Royal Court, in the West End, in films and television and hosted his own show "The Caravan" for the BBC for five years. Since coming to Cambridge he taught at Harvard College, Harvard's Summer and Extension Schools and at the A.R.T/MXAT Institute. He also acted on and off Broadway, at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and at the Lincoln Center Festival; lectured on Shakespeare in India and the Netherlands Theatre School. His awards included the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Boston Actor, the Jason Robards Award for Dedication to the Theatre, and the Derek Bok Award for Excellence in Teaching from Harvard University. He leaves behind his beloved wife Jan, and his daughters Lucy (from his first marriage), Sophie, and Jennifer.
