New Repertory Theatre announces CLOSER THAN EVER by David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jr., today, September 6-28, 2014 in the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA. Tickets are $25-$60 and may be purchased by calling the New Rep Box Office at 617-923-8487 or visiting newrep.org. Student, senior, and group discounts are available. Subscription packages including CLOSER THAN EVER are also available.

"This Maltby and Shire musical is the perfect beginning to our 30th Anniversary season," says New Rep Artistic Director, Jim Petosa. "Beautifully composed, skillfully written, and a whole lot of fun, CLOSER THAN EVER examines the world from the perspective of those reaching the 'middle years,' with songs that continue to resonate and timeless themes that can be enjoyed no matter what your age."

"Over the past 30 years, New Rep's community of actors, directors, and designers has grown to include hundreds of talented and hard-working individuals," says New Rep Managing Director, Harriet Sheets. "Amongst those is Leigh Barrett, who has graced our stages on numerous occasions. We are pleased to welcome her back as she performs double-duty-taking to the stage once more as well as directing this clever and touching musical."

Each song is a story in Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire's CLOSER THAN EVER, winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. Twenty-four wise and witty "songs of experience," based largely on true stories, intertwine insightful tales about love, security, happiness, and self-definition in the "middle years." Universal experiences and truths are uncovered through charming melodies and smartly-crafted lyrics.
