Sam Shepard/Scott Glenn to Perform Reading of AGES OF THE MOON, 7/28

By:

Two iconic American actors, Sam Shepard and Scott Glenn will perform a reading of "Ages of the Moon" to benefit Boise Contemporary Theater on July 28.

The play tells the story of two old friends who sip bourbon on a porch at an isolated cabin, waiting for a total eclipse of the moon on a summer night. Their reunion comes out of desperation. They reflect, bicker and test each other until 50 years of love, friendship and rivalry are pushed to the boiling point. From there, it's anyone's guess.

Shepard is a multi-talented entertainer. He wrote a song with Bob Dylan, contributed material to "Oh, Calcutta!", worked the rodeo circuit, and developed a serious film careeR. Shepard received an Oscar nomination for 1983's "The Right Stuff," which costars Glenn. He also is considered one of America's greatest playwrights with a list of taut, visceral plays as disturbing as they are funny, including "Cowboy Mouth" (with Smith), "True West," "Fool for Love," "Curse of the Starving Class" and "Buried Child," which won a Pulitzer in 1979.

Scott Glenn is one of Hollywood's most prolific and respected actors. He's starred in such diverse films as "Silence of the Lambs," "Silverado," "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "W." One of his more recent films, the indie feature "Magic Valley" written and directed by Idaho's Jaffe Zinn, helped provide the connection for this reading.

"Ages of the Moon" received its world premiere at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, then traveled to New York with Irish actors Stephen Rae ("The Crying Game") and Sean McGinley in 2009.
This will be the first performance of this play by American actors.

The reading of AGES OF THE MOON will be at 7 p.m. July 28 at The Egyptian Theatre, 700 W. Main St., Boise. $50, $70 and $100. For more information, please call: 345-0454 or visit: EyptianTheatre.net.
