By: Feb. 19, 2014

The Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts ranked 3rd in Venues Today for University "Top Stops" with 5,000 seats or less for the calendar year 2013. The designation is based total gross box office receipts. For total patron attendance and number of public performances the Morrison Center ranked #1 amongst University venues with 5,000 seats or less. Gross Box Office Receipts for the period were approximately $3.5 million for 97 public performances and an attendance of 111,053. In some years the Center's Gross Box Office Receipts can well exceed $5 million with attendance totaling 130,000 patrons. With rehearsals dates and facility holds, the Center is utilized approximately 200 days per year. Venues Today is the leading source of original reporting for live entertainment and events, serving management, owners and suppliers to music, sports and meetings venues internationally.

"2013 was extremely successful," said James Patrick, Executive Director of the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. "Our Fred Meyer Broadway In Boise series included solid offerings and we have some very strong presenting partners, including Magic Space Entertainment, and other national promoters that play an important role in our activity level. Our new flex curtain system (which masks off the balcony, offering a reduced seating capacity) has expanded the use of the Center, along with the Morrison Center Endowment Foundation's new funding model which increased Boise's local arts group usage. In addition, we continue to make upgrades and capital improvements to our venue in order to enhance the fan experience. Some recent improvements include ticket scanner technology, a more efficient chiller, spotlights, a 12,000 lumens stage projector, a large NanoLumens LED digital lobby display and a state-of-the-art d&b V-series line array sound system. With 24 performances of WICKED in 2014 we are excited to build on this success."
