At 5:30pm on January 19, 2017, Alley Repertory Theater will join over 500 theaters, ensembles, companies, and educational programs across the country to light a light and pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone - regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

Starting at 5:00pm, a group will meet at Visual Arts Collective (3638 Osage St, Garden City, ID) for live music by Kelly Lynae and Justin Ness and complimentary hot beverages. Then, at 5:30pm, the group will head outside for a brief lighting ceremony, coordinating with members of the theater community from coast to coast in each time zone. Inspired by the theatrical tradition of keeping a "ghost light" on in a darkened theater, we create light for the challenging times ahead. Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights and lanterns in lieu of candles and dress in warm layers.

Alley Repertory Theater's 2016/2017 series is comprised of 13 diverse women and 3 diverse men telling stories like: a bigoted female politician's journey toward fascism; a cabaret of 10 fed up princesses that are breaking free from their shallow and sexist portrayals by Hollywood; and a story about the gay birthright that is Barbara Streisand.

To keep up with the series, theatergoers can follow Alley Rep on Facebook and Instagram. Find more information about The Ghostlight Project at www.theghostlightproject.com.
