i have an audition for pirates of penzance coming up, and i was looking for some help with an audiiton song. i know i should sing something gilbert and sullivan, i just wasnt sure what. im a soprano, pretty flexible range (wouldnt have too much of a problem singing 'poor wandering one'), but im not a trained opera singer. any suggestions? also, would it be completly inappropriate for me to sing "think of me" from phantom of the opera? i know that its alw, but it might work. thanks for the help!
i have 'green finch and linnet bird' from sweeney todd stuck in my head right now so i'm going to suggest that. if this is a high school show i don't think 'think of me' would be a horrible thing to sing. otherwise, i would stay away from it. also it's not really that showy of a song and if you are looking to show off your range, don't do something that every soprano should be able to sing easily.
yeah, its a high school show, but i got a school for the arts, so its a little bit more competitive. but yeah, i see what your saying with "think of me" thanks !
"When the Buds are Blossoming", "There Grew a Little Flower" - Ruddigore "Love is a Plaintive Song", "I Cannot Tell What this Love May Be" - Patience
Both G&S shows and even though G&S is tough, I think a not-trained opera singer could handle them. My top choice would be "There Grew..."
Rosencrantz: "Be happy - if you're not even HAPPY what's so good about surviving? We'll be all right. I suppose we just go on."
- from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
'Tis done! I am a bride! (Yeoman of the Guard) Oh, Goddess Wise (Princess Ida)
Considering the OPTIONAL part of Poor, Wand'ring One goes up to a D and probably most sops your age would stop at the Bb either because they can't go higher or are too scared to, if you can do the coloratura in Glitter And Be Gay I'd say go for it!
