I'm auditioning for a private production of "Footloose" and I was wondering what the main guy parts are and what the ranges are like...i know there's Ren and he goes up to at least an A, but if that's wrong let me know lol, and i'd like to hear about the other main guy roles
thanks

I'm working on the show right now.

I think the best role in the show is Shaw. If your a good dramatic actor and can do some strong ballads .. go for Shaw.

But there's also Chuck Cranster (the bully .. fun role) and the kids and adults of Bomont.

There's also Williard---who has one of the best songs in the show, "Mama Says"---he's the hillbilly, cowboy type who befriends Ren when he first comes to Bomont.

I'm actually auditioning for that role/show in May. Good luck with your audition!

Yes! Willard! A really fun character. Has a great song "Mamma Says" ... if you're more comic try for Willard and if you're serious .. try for Shaw.

Hmmm, well...
For Shaw, you have to have a nice belty-ballad type of voice. His 11 o'clock number, if done correctly, can bring a tear to the eye of every parent in the audience.

For Willard, there's some high notes in "Mama Says." It's probably the most fun part in the show, but you have to be able to play a hillbilly.

And Ren, has some good songs. He's obviously the main attraction, but Shaw chews up most of the scenery. Ren has some high notes at the end of "I Can't Stand Still," but other than that, you don't have to have a great voice to be able to pull it off.
