I came across an old article about a 2008 revival of "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enough" to play the Circle in the Square but was postponed. Does anyone know what happened? Did they ever announce a cast?

The show had issues raising money, which is why it was indefinitely postponed.

Though it was fully cast at the time they pulled the plug, India.Arie (who was also composing original music for it) was the only person officially announced to star. I know Roslyn Ruff and Merle Dandridge were among the other actors who were going to be involved.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Whoopi Goldberg was the lead producer. Supposedly, she couldn't get investors because of the play's title.

So instead, we got a Tyler Perry film version.

The title really is outdated, even for a play. It's a shame because it's not a bad piece, but it's too segregating for 2013.

The title is not "outdated." The characters are literally colored girls; Lady in yellow, lady in purple etc.

Yes, I'm aware of that, (rolls eyes) but the racial implications are outdated and were CLEARLY a big enough deterrent to keep backers away.

And yeah, the title is outdated. But that's the play. It's a show about Colored Girls. And it's a good show.

"the racial implications are outdated"

There are no implications.

Are you stoned??? Yes, the term colored does have a racial implication. And yes, it is outdated. How are you arguing this???
