Now this board has become a place to "hook-up". I am shocked and appaulded!

Whatever you say, Krispy Kreme. My mom always taught me to respect my elders.

You guys, don't call Best Of Broadway, B*tch Of Broadway. I'm surprised Craig hasn't deleted that. Don't stoop to that level please. Let the lack of manners stick with those who have none.

Oh BoB, please don't pretend you're using "MJW" for anything more than a shortcut because you don't know how to spell her name and, apparently, you wouldn't know how to look something like that up if your life depended on it. Do they simply not care about the fundamentals at Carnegie Mellon?

Your icon is just so tawdry. It makes it look as if your highest aspiration is to be a cut-rate Michael Riedel. Or MR, if you will. Aim higher.

First of all, I'm going to put on my Mommy voice and say - "Kids - you need to respect each others opinions. So some of you hate Hairspray and some of you love Hairspray - so what? Just say - that's too bad for the other person and move on. You're only wasting time and energy by arguing opinions that will never change."

But, I do add this - which is more scary - someone who hates everything on Broadway or someone who loves everything on broadway?

Now, about the Hairspray/Shaiman concert - I think it looks so amazing and fun! And, I love that they put everyone from the casts names on the advertisement. I have a friend in the Hairspray tour, and it just brings a smile to my face everytime I see her name in print. So, those of you who get to see it - Please spill the details!!!!

...and your children start to leave you from the moment they are born.

Why NAMO - You always pop up at the best times. I noticed a pattern with a handful of CM students and actually it was bad pitch ironically.

Don't all you CM peeps jump on me about that comment either. There are plenty of GREAT performers who attended CM too

I do not love everything on Broadway belive me.. far from it.. I am just careful about trash talking shows or people on a public forum.

M-A-R-I-S-S-A J-A-R-E-T W-I-N-O-K-U-R.

BwayTheatre11- why in the world would I pay money to see a show that was absolute overrated garbage again? While I speak of my dislike of Marissa as a performer that is far from the only reason that I disliked the show. It is boring, campy, blinding, contrived, and simply put stupid.

MisterMatt- The sad part is that it actually had to come to this. The American Heritage dictionary defines talent as 1. A marked innate ability, as for artistic accomplishment. 2a. Natural endowment or ability of a superior quality. b. A person or group of people having such ability
In my opinion MARISSA JARET WINOKUR falls under none of these definitions. It's simply a matter of taste. I like musical theater performers who can sing and act over musical theater performers who can't do either. Am I wrong in expecting this of people I pay $100 to see?

PodiumPerson-As for your sly remarks about Carnegie Mellon's musical theater program I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish by bashing the performers. Being as I am not in the program and have no desire to be a performer what you have to say is really irrelevant and not becoming of your happy go lucky nature...now come on and give us a list of 10 good things you have to say.

BroadwayGuy2- as for your comment that I "have often cited Hairspray as evidence of Mitchell's "lack of talent"...as though he were unable to come up with something more complex" it is VERY true. And until I see something he choreographs that is worthwhile I will continue to do so. I began to ridicule his choreography when people on boards like this actually tried to compare his choreography to Twyla Tharp's in Movin Out which is simply ridiculous. I have yet to see the man choreograph something that puts him in a place of being called one of Broadway's great choreographers, which many hear have said. What has he done?...even his choreography for Never Gonna Dance (a dance show) was lame. Not even comparable to the beautifully danced and choreographed sequences in the Fred & Ginger movies. I have commented in the past on his remarks that he wanted to make the choreography simple for a reason. But the plain fact is that the man is not so much a bad choreographer as much as he is overrated.

Namo- do you really find it tawrdy re: SHAIMAN SELLING OUT CHICAGO Someone sent it to me and I thought it was hysterical!

Well I won't take up too much more of your time. For all you MARISSA JARET WINOKUR lovers I hope you enjoy your taped copies of "Big Girl" or whatever it was called- it certainly was memorable. Updated On: 1/19/04 at 04:52 PM

As far as Never Gonna Dance goes, I have not seen the show.. I have friends who have, both in teh business and out, who say that Mitchell's style mimmicks what was in The Fred and Ginger films. If you expect to capture that perfectly on stage, you WILL be mistaken because no one else is Fred and Ginger... not to mention that in film you are much aided by cinematography.

Than do tell what was the point of creating a stage version of one of their movies? Should we settle for "it was good but not Fred and Ginger." I think not. I'll remember from now on that dance will always be better on film because of cinematography. The fact is that the story was advanced through dance in the Fred and Ginger movies. That is not the case in Never Gonna Dance. The majority of the time is spent showing off fancy steps. Nothing happens in his dances.

Best Of Broadway - You're too easy.

PODIUM WRITES: I hand fed you and you ate it. You don't even realize it. Your entertainment stocks are at an all time high. Thank you AND BY THE WAY, I never named a school, kinda like you can't spell. Look forward to hearing from you. Best to you and the rest of your day. However, you're keeping me from a company party and we all know how much fun those can be.....drink a little too much, sleep with your co-worker or worse, an employee and avoid each other until the embarrasment subsides. Wish me luck.

"I began to ridicule his choreography when people on boards like this actually tried to compare his choreography to Twyla Tharp's in Movin Out which is simply ridiculous."

HOLD ON A MINUTE THERE, PARDNER! I was there. The flare ups and arguments on "boards like this one" were not because people thought that Mitchell was a better choreographer than Tharp, tho you certainly took every opportunity you could to stamp your feet and CAPITALIZE your sentiment that that was what they were saying. The argument was this. Many people, myself included, felt that a dance show performed in front of a Billy Joel cover band deserved a special Tony award and should not have been included, by the Tony nomination committee, in the field of new musicals. THAT (to borrow your cap lock) was what we were all arguing about. But you insisted then on not ever acknowledging that.

Good try this time, tho. Unfortunately, I remember the truth.

Your comments make no sense. Namo was talking about Carnegie Mellon and you said...

"Why NAMO - You always pop up at the best times. I noticed a pattern with a handful of CM students and actually it was bad pitch ironically."

You were very clearly responding to something he said. If I'm wrong than you simply aren't clear and need to phrase your sentences better.

And you therefore believed Namo- that Twyla's choreography should not be considered and that Jerry Mitchell should win because he was a "Musical Theater Choreographer." Well lets put it this way, Tony or no Tony, Twyla Tharp's choreography shines far brighter than any shimmy and pony.
