yeah i think the character is under developed for the show, but he's not supposed to be the main focus, so i guess that's fine.

however, i don't think Sean has any personality on stage, he's so lifeless. he's great to look at, but when he's on stage , there's no life behind his eyes and he's not exactly trying hard to bring something new to the table either.

re: Prince Eric in the Little Mermaid

I pictured Matt Bogart in the role.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Well the character of Eric is underdeveloped both in the movie and the show, but there's a major difference. In the movie, Eric becomes embroiled in Ursula's plan and actually has a purpose to fulfill; he gets hypnotized by Vanessa/Ursuala, almost marries her, then kills her and rescues Ariel. By altering the ending for the stage show, thereby getting rid of Vanessa and having Ariel herself dispatch Ursula, they reduced Eric to nothing more than a useless love interest who does pretty much nothing important in Act 2, except holding a singing contest.

I thought Sean Palmer was ok in the show but there wasn't anything special to it. It was just...ok.

Its not so much that hes underdeveloped, its that hes underdeveloped AND THEN they force pointless songs in for him.
