re: Hairspray Reaction @ Your Theatre Jul 22

I saw the movie yesterday in Atlanta, GA and again today in Chattanooga, TN and at both showings, the audience absolutely loved it - erupting in applause and cheers at the end. People were even dancing up the aisles on their way out of the theater in Atlanta.

I did see Movin' Out. I took my sister for her b-day. I thought it was just ok. I honestly didn't really care for it much at all. It wasn't terrible, I just prefer a more traditional show with dialogue.

I'm about 100 miles north of Atlanta, but I spend a lot of time in ATL. I have season tickets to the Broadway Series at The Fox.

re: Steel Magnolias -- does Delta Burke come out? Jul 24
2005, 08:27:45 PM
I went to see Steel Magnolias back at the first of July and Delta was so very nice. She was the last to come out and her arms were full of packages. She said, "Hold on, everybody. Just let me set this stuff in the car and I'll be right back." She put her packages in the car and then signed and took photographs with everyone that wanted one. She spent a surprisingly long time with me and my friend. We were chatting about Designing Women and Sordid Lives. She was so very sweet, amazingly gr

re: My review of Whorehouse! Jul 23
2005, 08:59:34 AM
I saw the tour of Whorehouse with Ann-Margret several years ago and really enjoyed it. I had grown up watching the movie version with Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, so it was cool for me to see how different the stage version was from the big screen adaptation. I honestly enjoyed Dolly better as Miss Mona, however I am a little biased when it comes to Ms. Parton. Ann-Margret was great, but her Miss Mona was more laid back where Dolly's take on the character was real bubbly and upbeat.

re: WHATS THE COOLEST MAIL YOU'VE RECIEVED FROM A STAGE DOOR? Jul 14

At one time I had an 8x10 photo of the original cast of Hairspray that was featured in Entertainment Weekly. It featured Marissa Jaret Winokur, Harvey Fierstein, Dick Latessa, Matthew Morrison, Kerry Butler, Corey Reynolds, Mary Bond Davis, and Jackie Hoffman. I was sending the photo back and forth getting it signed by each cast member. First Harvey, then Marissa, etc. They'd sign it, send it back to me, I'd send it to the next person, and so on and so on. Well, it was very close to the tim

Trying to decide... Jul 12
2005, 10:17:39 PM
I'm going to NYC in a few weeks and I'm having a hard time deciding what shows I want to see. I only have time (and money) to see 3 shows. I know I definitely want to see "All Shook Up" (bit of a closet Elvis fan here), but I can't decide what other 2 shows to see. I've seen most of the older shows on Broadway, so I've kinda narrowed it down to the following: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Sweet Charity Any suggestions???

re: What do you think of movies to musicals as a whole? Jul 6
2005, 10:38:40 PM
I've been thinking about this topic for a while. As much as I enjoy most of the movie-based shows (i.e. Hairspray, Thoroughly Modern Millie), I do become a bit concerned about this becoming the norm rather than the exception on Broadway today. Surely there are still great playwrights out there with wonderful, new and original show ideas! If Broadway development teams keep taking all their show ideas from the movies, these playwrights are never going to get a chance to shine!

re: Steel Magnolias To Play Final Performance Sunday, July 31 Jul 6
2005, 08:55:01 PM
I'm so glad I saw this show while I was in NYC last weekend! I thought the cast was wonderful and they were all so very sweet, friendly, and gracious at the stage door. I really don't know why it didn't do better than it did. I went to see this with a friend and we both loved it so much, we went to TKTS the next day and got tickets to see it again. I was really surprised that this wasn't better received. I guess many people may have figured, "I've seen the movie, why see the play?"

re: La Cage & Ticketmaster Jun 11

Popcultureboy is right. It's been my experience that Ticketmaster is one of the last people to be contacted when a performance is cancelled or closed. For example, I had tickets to see Cher on her recent never-ending farewell tour and the show was cancelled. I contacted Ticketmaster regarding my refund and they had not been notified yet that the show had been cancelled. It was literally a week or longer after the cancellation notice before Ticketmaster had received cancellation confirmation

I'm going to see Steel Magnolias in July and would love to meet Delta Burke. For those that have been to see Steel Magnolias, do the actresses usually sign and pose for photos at the stage door?

Dolly had kicked around the life story idea for a while, but in her latest interviews she's been talking about the 9 to 5 musical.

I've heard rumors about plans for a musical version of the movie "9 to 5" coming to Broadway. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Lyceum Theater - Steel Magnolias Stage Door May 28
2005, 01:55:20 PM
I'm coming to New York in July and will be seeing Steel Magnolias. I want to make sure and meet the cast after the show. Can someone tell me where the stage door is located at the Lyceum Theater?

re: More 'Hairspray' movie news Mar 8

After seeing Hairspray twice on Broadway with the original cast, I had always said that I couldn't imagine anyone except Harvey portraying Edna Turnblad....however I had to eat my words recently. Just 2 weeks ago I saw the Hairspray tour in Atlanta with John Pinette in the role of Edna. I was skeptical of seeing someone else feel those shoes, but I was blown away. He took a totally different approach to Edna and I loved it. Where Harvey's Edna was loud and brash, John's Edna was a little bit

re: EQUITY STRIKE: PRESSURE RISING Jul 11

South Fl Marc, thanks for your suggestion. If there is a strike, I'm sure I will venture to Off (or Off Off) Broadway. I must take in some theatre while I'm in town otherwise I will feel like I hadn't been to NYC at all. Do you have any recommendations for Off or Off Off Broadway shows that I should take in?

I'm coming to NYC this weekend on vacation. I live in Georgia and look forward to coming to NYC every year and the main reason is the Broadway shows. I have tickets to Wicked and The Boy From Oz. I understand where the actors are coming from but I will be so disappointed if they do go on strike. My vacation would practically be ruined since Broadway is honestly the highlight of my trip each year. Since I've never been in a situation like this, let me ask you guys this: if the actors do go o
