The River Region's oldest community theatre is once again preparing to travel another award-winning show to regional competition. On February 28 the Wetumpka Depot Players will present their production of The Glass Menagerie for local audiences in preparation to travel the show to Southeastern Theatre Conference ( SETC) in Lexington, Kentucky on March 3rd to represent Alabama in the community theatre festival.
"We were so pleased that our production of Tennessee William's The Glass Menagerie was selected as Best in Show at the state competition last October," said Tom Salter, director and Depot volunteer. "We are delighted to be advancing on to SETC.. Not only did our show advance, we were honored to be awarded with Best Director, Best Actor (Stephen Dubberley), Best Actress ( Kristy Meanor), Best Supporting Actor ( Chris Sims) and Best Musical Design ( Elizabeth Bowles). Rounding out the award winning cast and crew is Eve Harmon, Shelly Davis and Gayle Sandlin. The competition will be intense at SETC because this year is a national year with two of the twelve SETC companies advancing on to the national festival this year in Rochester, MN."
"We are so proud of this group," said Depot board president, Jeff Langham. "To be passed on from the state level is quite an honor and the entire Depot family will be supporting our group as they advance to the next level. We are no strangers to the festival scene. The Glass Menagerie will be the fifth show produced by the Depot to advance to regionals.Other productions include All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten, The Fantasticks and 'Night Mother. In 2010 our beloved production of Second Samuel advanced on to the national festival. The festival provides a wonderful opportunity to be good ambassadors of the Depot family and the entire River Region."
One encore performance will be offered to River Region audiences on February 28 at 7:30pm For more information about the Depot Players visit wetumpkadepot.com or call the box office at 334.868.1440. The theatre is located at 300 S Main Street in the historic downtown district of Wetumpka.
