The Highwood Theatre's Your Theatre presents Crazy Runs in the Family, a hilarious comedy written by former Highwood student Julia Starr. The play explores the anxiety of twenty-something Ellie Wheeler as she brings her straightlaced boyfriend home to meet her wacky family. Three generations of outrageous characters prove that everyone has a wild side.

Originally produced by The Highwood Theatre's Students' Theatre in 2012, the upcoming production of Crazy Runs in the Family features a mixed professional and student cast. It showcases the exciting work of unpublished playwright Julia Starr, who discovered her love for theatre through her participation in Highwood's Students' Theatre while she attended Sidwell Friends School in DC. Julia is currently studying theatre at Stanford University. The show features five professional actors plus Highwood Theatre students Kai Corkery, who will reprise his role from the 2012 production, and Dylan Kaufman, fresh off performances in Highwood's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Stuff Happens.

Highwood's Your Theatre productions are designed to bring the community together through theatre by welcoming all into the creative process and breaking down divisions of age, training, and experience. We believe that everyone deserves the challenge, support, and creative self-development opportunities that a theatre experience provides. In Crazy Runs in the Family, we continue our efforts to allow collaboration and growth to occur among artists of all ages and experience levels.

Crazy Runs in the Family is directed by Abe Woycke, Highwood's Managing Director. It features Ryan Gunning (Ellie Wheeler), Gray West (Jeff), Dylan Kaufman (Ryan Wheeler), Sue Schaffel (Joanne Wheeler), Alex Miletich (Greg Wheeler), Annette Wasno (Zozie), and Kai Corkery (Lionel).

About The Highwood Theatre

The Highwood Theatre is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the community together through theatre. Our guiding principle is "anyone can do theatre." Now in its 11th season, Highwood began with ten seasons of professional quality theatre featuring all student casts, design teams, and production staff. In conjunction with its relocation to the heart of downtown Silver Spring in 2013, The Highwood Theatre expanded to develop and provide innovative, engaging programming for everyone who is interested in theatre, regardless of their age, experience level, or training. Through professional and student productions, along with programs for schools and home-schooled students, and opportunities to learn about all aspects of theatre as well as to develop new plays or other innovative concepts, we aim to bring the community together and foster an environment where everyone feels comfortable, supported, and inspired to collaborate, share, appreciate, and create.
