Red Branch Theatre Company Announces Special Events, More Dates for SWEENEY TODD

By:

Red Branch Theatre Company (RBTC) will kick off its 2016 season entitled Paint It Red with the TONY Award-winning musical thriller SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET. New show dates and special events held in conjunction with the production have just been announced. The production will run at Drama Learning Center, where Red Branch is the theatre in residence, from April 8 - 30, 2016.

Set in London, SWEENEY TODD is the epic musical adaptation of the 1973 play by Christopher Bond. Adapted by Stephen Sondheim (music & lyrics) and Hugh Wheeler (book), SWEENEY TODD won eight TONY Awards (including Best Musical, Book, and Original Score) when it premiered on Broadway in 1979. Following 557 performances on Broadway, the piece has lived on through several National and International tours, as well as regional performances. Other productions in Red Branch's 2016 season include the area premiere of Heathers the Musical, Evil Dead the Musical, and Harry Connick, Jr.'s The Happy Elf.

Red Branch will invite patrons attending the opening night performance on April 8th to celebrate with the cast and creative team following the show with a complimentary champagne toast courtesy of restaurant partner The Iron Bridge Wine Company. Julie Kurzava will lead the audience and cast in a post-show discussion entitled "At last, my arm is complete again" - SWEENEY TODD's Search for Justice in a Corrupt World following the 3 PM performance on Sunday, April 17th. In an effort to make theatre accessible for all, the performance on April 22nd will be ASL-interpreted.

SWEENEY TODD is presented with permission through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Red Branch Theatre Company's production is made possible in part through the generous support of title sponsor Howard County Economic Development Authority. Red Branch Theatre Company is a 501c3 tax-exempt corporation whose mission is to deliver an accessible, enriching, and professional theatre experience for both artists and audiences.
