Olney Theatre Center, a 73-year-old professional award-winning nonprofit theater whose mission is to inspire and nurture artists, students, technicians, administrators, and its audience members through its diverse array of theatrical and musical productions, announces its 2012 season in an exclusive event held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 for their dedicated subscriber and fan base to reward them for their commitment to the Theatre.

Unlike many theatres in the region whose season ends this month, Olney Theatre Center will continue to bring exciting and new musicals and plays to its three indoor and one outdoor stage year-round. Olney Theatre Center promises that audiences will be thoroughly entertained with the season's selections. Olney Theatre Center's next major performance after the recent closing of the Helen Hayes Award Recommended Farragut North,, the New York Times critically-acclaimed Opus, officially opened on June 8. Written by Michael Hollinger and directed by Olney Theatre Center's Artistic Director Jim Petosa, Opus explores the intimate balance between its characters - one set to perform on a nationally-televised broadcast at the White House, the other a volatile violin player in a string quartet, and their ambitions and passions that surface under the pressure to perform. Opus is set to run from June 8 through July 3 on Olney Theatre Center's Mainstage. Opus is just the start of Olney Theatre Center's full summer line-up which includes an audience favorite, Grease, starting the end of July and the 21st annual free outdoor Shakespeare performance of The Taming of the Shrew by the National Players at Olney Theatre Center set to run August 26-27th.

"Olney Theatre Center prides itself on being one of the only theatres in the region that has a year-round season for those that want to continue seeing plays no matter what month it is," Managing Director, Amy Marshall, says. "This season has something for everyone to enjoy because we are planning to showcase musicals and plays that some audiences will recognize as well as some they will not have seen before."

Olney Theatre Center has been bringing the art of theatre to its stages since 1938 when it first opened in what was then rural Olney. Throughout the years, Olney Theatre Center has grown to bring consistently challenging, dynamic, and award-winning theatrical productions to the Baltimore-Washington community on a year-round basis.
