New Play Readings at Spotlighters Theatre

By:

A young Tanzanian, en route to Houston to study economics, arrives at the Washington, D.C. bus terminal where his idealized notion of America quickly tarnishes. A blind lady who can see, a crooked cop, and a con game featuring a device purportedly turning tens into twenties swirl about him as they float through the station's hustle and bustle. And Bubu Mabozi is forced to confront American gun violence, greed, and racism in this laugh-filled, zany farce.

George Holets co-founded the Playwrights Theatre of Washington (1972), and is an award-winning playwright and member of the Dramatist Guild. His plays have found productions from California's Bay Area to the Players Theatre in New York City: his longest running being an adaptation of Treasure Island at the Smithsonian Institution with 168 performances. In other lives George has traded options for a Wall Street brokerage, brought the State Theatre of Ithaca 1,626 seat movie palace/performing arts center back on line, worked as CFO for an AIDS organization, and raised two kids.

Join us for free staged reading of a new play submitted by a local playwright for this summer's Baltimore Playwrights Festival. Our next reading is on Saturday, January 28, 1 pm, at Spotlighters Theatre, 817 St. Paul Street.

Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before the reading is to begin. Readings begin promptly and are followed by a short talkback.

The readings are free and are open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

If the readings are cancelled due to weather conditions we will post a notice on our web site, www.baltplayfest.org.
