Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is set to announce its winter schedule of acting classes for The Ensemble School . Taught by working actors, The Ensemble School is a training ground for professional and aspiring actors. The school focuses on giving actors the training, knowledge and experience that benefits actors of all levels. The MET will be holding an Open House on January 25th from 4:30 - 6:00pm. The Open House will offer prospective students the chance to meet the instructors, talk about the classes and see the theatre and classrooms.

Early registration is encouraged as the individual attention the MET instructors provide demand small classes. Reduced tuition for teens is available through work/study apprentice opportunities which also provide students the chance to add professional experience to their resumes. The MET is extremely excited about this semester's classes as the curriculum continues to develop through years of professional training and experience.

Acting Out (ages 7-9) taught by Melissa Baughman will feature games and exercises that build self confidence and encourage the creative mind. This class has a rotating curriculum, so returning students will continue to be challenged. Mellisa Baughman, a director with Landless Theatre Company, will also teach Performance Skills (ages 10 -12). This class focuses on acting with the ensemble structure using improv, vocal techniques, scene work, and ensemble-based movement.
Teen Improv (ages 13 -17) will be taught by Caitlyn Joy, a veteran of the Ensemble School and a graduate of the theatre program at Towson. MET Associate Artistic Director Julie Herber will teach Teen Acting (ages 13 -17) which will leave students with the skills to tackle any role they may encounter.

The Ensemble School will be offering two classes for adults. Adult Improv reviews basic improv techniques and lays a foundation for future growth through the study of short form and long form improv. That class will be taught by Comedy Pigs troupe member Laura Stark. The other adult class, back by popular demand, is Adult Acting for Film, which teaches techniques for acting and auditioning in front of the camera. Adult Acting for Film will be taught by accomplished MET ensemble member Reiner Prochaska.

All classes are 12-week sessions and begin on or after February 6. All classes are limited to 12 students and meet once a week.

In addition to the classes above plans are being made for The Ensemble School's Youth Ensemble showcases. All Ensemble School students are eligible to be featured in the showcases and auditions will be held in the spring. The Ensemble School can lead to the chance to perform in MET touring shows,Fun Company and mainstage shows. The MET also keeps our students informed about outside acting opportunities.

For over a decade, Maryland Ensemble Theatre has been producing thought-provoking theatre, fun family entertainment, artist residency programs for public schools, challenging classes and the side-splitting Comedy Pigs. The MET is an artistic leader in the region and at the forefront of the creation of Frederick's Theater District.
