A Clockwork Orange: A Play With Music is a nightmare vision of a not-too-distant future in which fifteen-year-old Alex and his three friends rob, rape, torture, and murder--for fun. But the "fun" doesn't last. Alex is jailed for his vicious crimes and the State undertakes drastic measures to reform him, but how and at what cost? A cult classic Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange is part horror farce, part social prophecy, and part penetrating study of human choice between good and evil.Based on his classic 1962 dystopian novella, author Anthony Burgess penned A Clockwork Orange: A Play With Music in 1987, prompted by his general displeasure over Stanley Kubrick's famous 1971 movie adaptation. In this self-adaptation, Burgess restores A Clockwork Orange's controversial original ending and uses a musical score to further the narrative structure of main character Alex's world. Productions of A Clockwork Orange: A Play With Music have now run for over three decades all over the globe. Burgess' original was named by Time Magazine as one of the best English-language novels of all time.
