Loch Raven High School is pleased to announce its annual spring musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelhart with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, to be performed March 4, 5, and 6 at 7:00 PM. Directed by Ms. Erin E. Confair, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum will be performed in the school's auditorium. The diverse cast of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors ranging from 14-18 years old has been dedicated to bringing this hilarious musical to life. "It is funny, dynamic, beautiful, risky, dramatic, and lovely. You will laugh until you cry," describes junior Nicolas Grabner (Hysterium).

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from the time-tested, 2000-year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. The result is a non-stop laugh fest in which a crafty slave (Pseudolus played by Rohan Goswami) struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan (Philia played by Hannah Jennkins) for his young master (Hero played by Drew Hamel), in exchange for freedom. Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. Director Erin E, Confair states, "This show is the perfect escape from life's troubles. The students of Loch Raven High School will truly force you to leave your tragedy behind you because they will be your comedy tonight!"

"My experience with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum has been amazing!" exclaims freshman Allison Comotto (Protean). "I got to be creative and make friends. I am so glad I auditioned!" Junior Rohan Goswami (Psuedolus) states, "Working with a great cast of people has been my favorite part, everyone has been so helpful and encouraging that by supporting each other there is nothing we can't accomplish."

The audience can look forward to the exciting choreography of Mr. Joseph M. Frollo in "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" and "The House of Marcus Lycus." The audience will also be enticed by the upbeat musical numbers of Stephen Sondheim. Included in these numbers are "Comedy Tonight", "Free", "Impossible", "That Dirty Old Man", and "That'll Show Him" under the musical direction of Mr. Kevin King, Mr. Ed Goldstein, and Ms. Erica Confair, and also featuring Mrs. Patty DeLisle on piano. Freshman Allison Farrell (Geminae) states, "I am so excited for my first high school production. I cannot wait to show the audience the big ensemble numbers."

Tickets will be available at the door upon arrival. Adult tickets are $10, and students, senior citizens, and children are $5. The cast and crew of Loch Raven High School's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum look forward to seeing you on March 4, 5, and 6 at 7:00 PM where "we shall employ every device we know in our desire to divert you."
