Two new exhibits will be on view at the Howard County Arts Council galleriesbeginning July 2, 2010. HoCo Open 2010, in Gallery I, features the artwork of local artists andNo Boundaries, in Gallery II, features work by youth and adults with developmental disabilities.On June 28 th , artwork will be accepted for the exhibit on a first-come, first-served basis from4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.; allowing only one piece per artist.
Over eighty pieces of artwork wereadmitted during the first hour of the drop-off. HoCo Open 2010, in Gallery I, features theartwork of 100 artists working in diverse media, including but not limited to: watercolor, oilpainting, collage, line drawings, photography, and ceramics. Prices of works range from $40 to $3,000, with many pieces falling in the $100 - $600 range.The Gallery II exhibit, No Boundaries, provides a venue for the display and viewing of artworkcreated by persons with developmental disabilities.
The exhibit features pieces which werecreated in art classes run by the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks andCedar Lane School. The goal of these programs is to provide an opportunity for individuals withvarying degrees of developmental disability to participate in an art class designed for self-expression, independence and relaxation.There will be an exhibit reception July 8, 6-8 p.m. with light refreshments.
That night there willbe an Open Mic Night ENCORE! hosted by Bruce Nelson beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the blackbox theatre of HCAC. Guests interested in performing in the Open Mic show should contact Wendy Meetze at deputydirector@hocoarts.org or sign-up to perform at the door. The reception is free and open to the public.
HoCo Open 2010 and No Boundaries will be on display through August 13, 2010. Thegallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. To learn more about these and other HCAC programs call 410-313-ARTS (2787)
