Fells Point Corner Theatre's next production is from the Baltimore Playwrights Festival. UNDER THE POPLAR TREES, written by Rosemary Frisino Toohey and directed by Miriam Bazensky, opens on August 14th and will run until August 31, 2014.

Two prisoners, one an idealist, the other a realist, become friends, and long after their days at Dachau, one is haunted by the lively spirit of his old companion.

Rosemary Frisino Toohey's first play was produced at Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York. Since then, she's had more than 180 productions of her work from New York to New Zealand and has won the Next Generation Playwriting Contest in New York, the Baltimore Playwrights' Festival (twice) and the Oglebay Institute National Towngate Theatre Contest (twice.) Under The Poplar Trees was a Finalist for the Julie Harris Playwriting Awards. When not writing, Frisino Toohey anchors on all-news 99.1 WNEW Radio and works frequently in film and on TV.

Miriam Bazensky has been directing in the Baltimore area for 25 years. She is vice-chair of the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, for which she has produced and directed countless original works by Maryland playwrights during the summer months. She is also the artistic director for Uncommon Voices which she and Carol Oles cofounded in 1998.

Featured in the cast are: Beth Amann, Justin Johnson, Max Lanocha, Jeff Murray, Annette M. Wasno and Karim Zelenka
