Everyman Theatre's Summer Acting Students Stage Scenes from A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Today

By:

Students from Everyman Theatre's High School Summer Acting Intensive will wrap up their month-long program at the theatre with a performance of scenes from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The final performance will take place today, August 2nd at 1:00pm in the theatre's second-floor rehearsal hall.

The High School Summer Acting Intensive is a four-week course designed for actors of high school age seeking to build their acting skills in a challenging and supportive environment. Students work with professionals on vocal and physical strengthening for the stage, building a character, scene analysis, dramatic structure, and ensemble composition.

Guest artists, such as Everyman's Resident Fight Choreographer Lewis Shaw, worked with students throughout the Intensive in specialized skills like stage combat.

"We make it clear from the start that this will be a lot of hard work," said Everyman's Education Director Marcus Kyd. "The students go through training similar to what you would experience in college or at a conservatory so they come out with a solid understanding of monologue and scene work. It's always exciting for us to see just how far everyone has come in four weeks of work!"

The Summer Intensive, which has been running every summer since 2006, culminates in a final performance of a classical work. This year, the students will be presenting scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Students will play various roles throughout the performance.
