In a time when reality and competitive shows have become the norm, Broadway Team William Finn (Music/Lyrics) and Rachel Sheinkin (Book), brought that theme to The Great White Way. Their efforts paid off to sold-out performances and an extended run. In turn, the musical received the 2005 Tony Award for Best Book and Best Featured Actor.'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' features six young overachievers, and a few audience members, in a competition to win the Spelling Bee trophy and advance to the next level. These kids, however, are in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves. They will learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. For these outsiders it is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. With audience volunteers recruited nightly to participate on-stage as guest spellers, each performance is guaranteed to be unique.
