The Art Institute Presents New Site-Specific Installation by Kara Walker

Critically acclaimed artist Kara Walker has, over the years, pursued the silhouette's implications and transformations in paintings, drawings, collages, shadow puppets, cut steel, film and video animations, and 'magic-lantern' projections. She returns to her signature cut-paper silhouettes in monumental form for a new site-specific, commissioned work titled Rise Up Ye Mighty Race! (2013), created specifically for the Art Institute of Chicago. The room installation--on view from February 21 through August 11, 2013, in Gallery 293 of the Modern Wing--will include five large-framed graphite drawings and 40 small-framed, mixed-media drawings along with the cut paper silhouettes.

THE TRAGEDY OF ARTHUR, centers on the discovery of a lost Shakespeare play and the doubts surrounding its origins. It is an evening of fraud, forgery and illegitimacy, centering on the complicated relationship between a father and son. This lost text is the true story of the famous King Arthur from the Bard's point of view. It is a tale of epic war, love and the search for one man's true calling. THE TRAGEDY OF ARTHUR is a play full of Shakespeare's language, poetry insight, drama, beauty, and history; however the mystery of its true origins, begs us to blend and blur what we know and what we choose to believe.

With bullying such a growing "epidemic" that is impacting children at younger and younger ages, the JCC Teen Department holding a teen leadership conference for middle school students that will be dedicated to the pressing topic of bullying. At the conference, which is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013, 8:30am - 1pm, The Elisabeth Morrow School students who attend will have a unique opportunity to learn more about the dangers of bullying, hear personal stories from teens who have been victims of bullying, and gain a deeper understanding of the emotional scarring that such experiences cause. The goal is to make younger teens "aware" and to inspire them to believe that they can personally make a difference and bring about social change.

In order to become his bride she must cross cultural boundaries and defy the will of her family. Alone, she faithfully awaits his return. However, she has a serious dilemma at her hands. Madam Butterfly is a deeply tragic and gripping opera that will truly affect its spectator.

Last night, Angel Management Group's PURE Nightclub welcomed GRAMMY Award-winner Miguel as he took over the mega-club and gave clubgoers a memorable performance. Around 1 a.m. the R&B singer, accompanied by his stunning girlfriend Nazanin Mandi, hit the red carpet and posed for photographers. Dressed to the nines, Miguel sported a fashionable tailored gray blazer, white tee-shirt and black fitted jeans while his sweetheart dawned a flattering yellow two-piece dress with black heels. Making their way into the mega-club the duo joined their entourage at their VIP table located on the main stage. Taking in the energy from the packed room, a humbled Miguel hopped on top of his plush booth and raised his glass to toast his admirers.

The event will honor legendary producer Eric Krebs with The Rosie Award and will take place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, East 25th Street between Lexington and 3rd Avenues beginning at 6:30pm.
