Griffin DeVries is a freshman at Valencia College in Orlando Florida who’s majoring in Theatre Arts. Griffin states that his mission in life is to share his passion for the performing arts, to always love his family and spread positivity to every passing stranger. Griffin has two-part time jobs, one as a Sandwich Artist at Subway and another at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Griffin loves directing, and management and he hope to one day win a TONY Award for Best Director. When Griffins not busy studying or working, he loves to read, hang out with friends and watch lots of movies. He would like to thank his friend and family for always supporting him and his incredible team at the Dr. Phillips Center for helping him learn the ways of the theatre world.

It's a custom for my troupe to announce the upcoming season at the end of the year banquet. The tension in the room was thick as everyone waited in anticipation. The season was always something that was announced last. And finally, my teacher walked on stage with a folded paper in her hands and announced the last production of my senior year was Sister Act: The Musical.

The curtain falls… you get into your position for bows… It's the last day of your show… You take your final bow. You're saying goodbye to a character that you have come to love for weeks. THE. TEARS. START. FALLING.

At my last District Competition, I had the pleasure of performing a Small Group Musical entitled 9 Peoples Favorite Thing from the musical, Title of Show. When choosing pieces to take to competition, this song spoke to me because it relies on one simple message: to have confidence in yourself even when others don't believe in you.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of art is to "The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." This definition is a true statement to how I feel when I'm in the theatre doing what I love.
