The national tour of Pippin launched in Denver this week, and host of 'In Focus' Eden Lane sat down for a one-on-one with composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (GODSPELL, WICKED, Pippin, and more). Lane also met the director and driving force behind this re-imagined Pippin, Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. This episode also includes highlights with cast members Matthew James Thomas as Pippin, Lucie Arnaz as Berthe, Sasha Allen (a finalist on the 4th season on THE VOICE) as Leading Player, and Tony Award-winner John Rubinstein, who created the role of Pippin in the 1972 original Broadway production. As outrage continues to grow over the NFL's mishandling of domestic violence charges against former running back Ray Rice, protesters have started to call for CoverGirl, the league's “official beauty sponsor,” to withdraw its support. Comedian Megan MacKay's decision to tackle the incompetence the league has exhibited with her “Ray Rice Inspired Makeup Tutorial,” definitely fits the situation and is perhaps one of the best satires to come out of a scandal so entirely unfunny.

In this week's episode of 'In Focus', host Eden Lane gives us an early look at ONCE ON THIS ISLAND: A CARIBBEAN FAIRY TALE MUSICAL at The Aurora Fox Theatre Company. The multiple Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Spring Awakening, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, is set to receive an innovative, immersive production performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English. Presented by Deaf West Theatre in association with The Forest of Arden, Spring Awakening opens tomorrow, September 13, at Inner-City Arts in downtown L.A. Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of Bootycandy, a new play written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (director of In the Continuum, author of Antebellum and Insurrection: Holding History). Bootycandy is the opening production of the Playwrights Horizons 2014/2015 Season. The production opened on September 10 and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, October 12 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).
